MVMD Board of Directors Adopts New 4th Tier for Water Pricing to Encourage Water Conservation
A special public meeting of the Mid Valley Metro District Board of Directors (BOD) was held June 22, 2026 at which the BOD adopted a new 4th "Super" tier pricing schedule for water charges.
This pricing encourages conservation by having a realistic threshold of 25,000 gallons during the irrigation months for people who use domestic water for irrigation purposes. The threshold considered the evapo-transpiration rates and expected volumes of water to properly irrigate 3,500 square feet of greenspace, the amount of greenspace approved in Mid Valleys rules and regulations for single family homes.
According to Bill Reynolds, Executive Director for Mid Valley Metropolitan, "the mid valley district is set up with over 70 percent of the districts members using "raw" water for irrigation from irrigation ditches intertwined within the districts service boundaries. Many of these communities operate their own "raw water systems". There are also communities within the district that have their own domestic water systems. "All of our members are encouraged to conserve where we can. We also understand the importance of using our resources to reduce the fire danger. Keeping some green is an important component to keeping our communities safe."
We are doing a balancing act every day and keeping tabs of our resources and facilities. We beleive this 4th tier will provide a strong encouragement for people to conserve as we endure during this drought.
